The 10th of February – Diplomat’s Day in Russia. 
 
In February 1549 the Posolskiy Prikaz (Ambassador’s Department) – the first foreign affairs office was founded in Russia. Later in 1718-1720 the Russian Emperor Peter the Great by his decree transformed the above into the Collegium of the Foreign Affairs which in 1802 was reorganized to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. In 2002 the President of the Russian Federation by his Decree established the Day of the Diplomat to recognize the contribution by Russian diplomats in strengthening the role of our country in global political affairs.

 

Address by the Russian Ambassador to Ireland Mr. Yuriy Filatov in connection with online presentation of documents and photographs from the Archive of Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation on the occasion of the Russian Diplomat’s Day

 

Dear friends,

I am glad to announce that on the occasion of the Russian Diplomat’s Day, that is a professional holiday of the employees and veterans of the Russian Foreign Ministry (February 10th), the Russian Embassy in Ireland holds online presentation on its Internet resources - the Embassy's website www.ireland.mid.ru and social media – the documents and photographs of the Archive of the Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation.

The exhibition contains a wide list of archival documents and photographs dedicated to the national diplomatic service, its formation, further development and important events of international scale. This is the Decree of Tsar Fyodor Alekseyevich on the Ambassador’s Department of 1679, the Decree of Peter I on setting up a Collegium of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of 1720, the Manifesto of Alexander I on establishing ministries of 1802. Among the important  documents of the XX century presented in the online exhibition is the text of the radio address by V.M. Molotov on June 22, 1941, Act of military surrender of Germany on May 8, 1945, United Nations Charter. The exhibition presents Russian-Irish relations - the Joint Communiqué on the exchange of diplomatic missions between the USSR and Ireland on September 29, 1973 and presenting the credentials by the Irish Ambassador to the USSR, Patrick McCabe, to the First Deputy Chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR A.I. Lukyanov on February 17, 1990.
